6 Ways to Clear Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is where patches of skin become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin. This darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin color, forms deposits in the skin.
There are three main types of hyperpigmentation:
Melasma - caused by hormonal changes and may develop during pregnancy. Areas of hyperpigmentation can appear on any area of the body, but they appear most commonly on the stomach and face.
Sun Spots - caused by excess sun exposure over time. Generally, they appear as spots on areas exposed to the sun, like the hands and face.
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) - This is a result of injury or inflammation to the skin. A common cause of this type is acne.
Now we know what types of hyperpigmentation there are we can look at how to treat them. Here are six home cures for hyperpigmentation.
1. Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar contains a type of polyphenolic compound that is beneficial in managing hyperpigmentation. One can apply it daily to help manage their skin's discolouration and prevent the occurrence from happening again.
2. Sunscreen
Sunscreen is the most crucial ingredient to protect your skin from harmful sun rays, and this article will help you learn how. First of all, make sure that sunscreen gets absorbed into your skin before heading out in the sunshine- it takes 15 minutes for a lotion or spray to get completely soaked up by our epidermis!
It's also essential not only to apply every day but re-apply after four hours have passed too. The more you mess with it now, the worse it'll look later. 5. Chemical Exfoliation
Gentle chemical exfoliants can also enhance and increase the rate of skin cell renewal. This will cause the hyperpigmented skin to be replaced by new skin cells. This can also be done through topical creams, washes, and solutions that have ingredients like vitamin C or glycolic acid.
6. Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is an in-office procedure used to treat hyperpigmentation that affects the epidermis only (superficial scarring).
During the procedure, a dermatologist will use a drill-like handheld tool with a wire brush or other abrasive attachment. The tool is then swiped across your skin to rapidly — but gently — to remove the epidermis. You may need multiple sessions to achieve your ideal result
